Happy Birthday Ross Youngs!

Happy Birthday to the late and great New York Giant, Ross Youngs. Youngs played his ten-year career in Right Field for the New York Giants and played a significant role in the Giant's back-to-back World Series Championships in 1921 & 1922.

Career Statistics (1917-1926):

.322 BA, 1,491 HITS, 42 HR, 592 RBI, .399 OBP, 812 RUNS

Youngs was an excellent base runner, being suitable for Triples in the double digits and 100 or more Runs. His plate approach was great. In eight years, he walked more than he struck out and had a 162-game average of 199 Hits. In Nine of his ten seasons, he hit over .300. In Game 3 of the 1921 World Series; he became the first player to record two hits in the same inning of a World Series game.

Unfortunately, in August of 1926, Youngs was forced to call it quits after being diagnosed with "Bright's disease," a kidney disorder. However, before he left, he tutored his successor and future Hall of Famer Mel Ott on how to play Right Field. The following year at the age of 30, Youngs would die. His skipper John McGraw regarded him "as the greatest outfielder I ever saw on a ball field." Almost forty-five years after his death, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame via the Veterans Committee.
